About

A chapter of the American Humanist Association serving the Linn County, Iowa area. Interested in Humanism? We are good without a God. Join us to discuss ideas, create community, and be involved in social and political activism and service projects while having a little coffee and fun. We are a chapter of the American Humanist Association (http://americanhumanist.org) and as such, support their efforts to "bring about a progressive society where being good without a god is an accepted and respected way to live life." Furthermore, "Humanism encompasses a variety of nontheistic views (atheism, agnosticism, rationalism, naturalism, secularism, and so forth) while adding the important element of a comprehensive worldview and set of ethical values – values that are grounded in the philosophy of the Enlightenment, informed by scientific knowledge, and driven by a desire to meet the needs of people in the here and now." Humanists of Linn County is a secular group without any religious or new age underpinnings. Secular Humanists and nontheists (atheists, agnostics, rationalists, naturalists) are the core of our organization. We are happy to work with friends and allies on common goals such as defense of our civil liberties and separation of church and state.
