Nelson's Meat Market was started in 1935 by Weir Nelson who had moved to Cedar Rapids from Jewel, Iowa (near Ames ). The original location was at 1st Avenue & 32nd Street NE , next to where the Irish Democrat is currently located. Weir's son, Weir Jr., started in the business during the 1940's and worked in the market until 1990. They became locally known for very good meats. During the 1960's, Nelson's expanded to multiple locations but in 1990, the locations were consolidated into the Old Marion Road location where we remain today. Nelson's has expanded to include an eat-in deli, outside summer grilling and full-line catering.
Nelson's is known for excellent quality, great personal service and a relaxed shopping experience. We try to get to know each of our customers personally and have some fun while we work. We'd like to get to know you! Stop by and get to know us!
