PUBLIC NOTICE COMPLETION OF FIVE-YEAR REVIEW ADDENDUM Ralston Superfund Site Cedar Rapids, Linn County, lowa March 2019 EPA EPA Region 7: lowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Nine Tribal Nations The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 has completed the Five-Year Review Addendum for the Ralston Superfund Site. Five-Year Reviews are required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) when hazardous substances remain on site above levels that permit unrestricted use and unlimited exposure. Five-Year Reviews provide an opportunity to evaluate the site remedy to determine whether it remains protective of human health and the environment. This Five-Year Review Addendum determined the remedy at the Ralston Site is protective of human health and the environment in the short- term, because engineering and groundwater use controls prevent unacceptable exposure to soil and groundwater. This Addendum to the Third Five-Year Review Report was signed March 14, 2019 EPA has assessed the ability of the public to access the Five-Year Review through an internet- based repository and has determined that the local community has this ability.
